The National Slate Association is a not-for-profit North American organization comprised of quarries, distributors, contractors and consultants to the natural slate roofing industry. The association’s goal is to promote the use of slate in both 21st century new construction, and its preservation and restoration on existing and historic buildings.

The association is actively involved in monitoring existing industry material standards and is researching slates performance in areas of severe weather conditions and its applicability to emerging LEED certification criteria. The National Slate Association is developing an Installation and Design Manual that will assist designers, specifiers, installers and building owners to ensure slate is properly chosen, supplied, designed and installed to produce the best possible results. Through regular board, sub-committee and general meetings, and the maintenance of an informational web site, the association offers a forum for the exchange of ideas by industry professionals.
